An experiment conducted by British scientist Ken Symons proved that calcium carbonate helps neutralize the harmful effects of acid rain on the river water ecosystem. Ground calcium carbonate is being used to test the potential of flue gas desulfurization by eliminating sulfur dioxide emissions from coal and fossil fuels. Calcium carbonate helps treat drinking water and wastewater.
